TRENTANOVE ....

Its sunday and we plan to visit the 4th festival on our tour. After Stuttgart, Como and Perugia we are heading now 60 km south to Spoleto and the Festival dei 2 mondi (festival of the two worlds). The plan is to attend the "concerto di mezzogiorno" at the Teatro Ciao Melisso - the last lunch concert of the 54th (!!) festival which was founded by Gian Carlo Menotti.

Teatro Ciao Melisso ... can you find Seda?
Rising classical stars

What a great town, what a great - classical - concert, what a great theatre! Simply perfect! A small theatre, even smaller than Teatro Pavone in Perugia but it gives such a lovely atmosphere! Of course the audience here are different - mature listeners to "rising stars" of classical music: Gioia Giusti, piano and William Chiquito, violine. Program is Brahms, Ysaye (?!!!!) and finally Beethoven. Beethovens "spring-sonata" op. 24 is simply great!

After the concert we explore a little bit this beautiful city but the weather doesn't make us happy: lovely sunshine and 39 degrees!!! We are very quickly exhausted and we finish the sightseeing and shopping tour (local specialities: everything with truffles ... black, white, salsas, pasta .... what a lovely area!). Who wants to get invited to an Italian dinner in Dresden???

Spoleto

The car cools us down but our next stop is putting the sweat back in our faces. When you are in this region you must have seen Assisi. This is the town where the holy Francesco was born and he lived there and showed the catholic church a complete new way - also for non-christians an interesting story. You might look the Zefirelli movie called "brother sun, sister moon" which tells the most important parts of his life.  In Assisi he is buried and it's a place of pilgrimage for all christians! Worth to see.

The under-church of Assisi where Francesco is buried
The rest of the day we spent in the pool to relax and cool us down. As a summary of this day we can say that we have to come back to Spoleto again to see and learn more of this city which should be known better in this world.
